Market volatility has been a theme for the past several years, with records being set in nearly all livestock markets. This session will address the dynamic market conditions in livestock markets that have led to extreme volatility and what to expect in 2025 and beyond.

Tyler Cozzens

Dr. Tyler Cozzens

Tyler Cozzens is the Director and Agricultural Economist at the Livestock Marketing Information Center. He has been with the LMIC since 2019 providing economic analysis for the livestock and feed sectors. Previously, Tyler worked as an agricultural economist at the United States Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service (USDA/FAS) in Washington, D.C. where he provided situation and outlook economic analysis on U.S. and global livestock production and trade.  Tyler also worked for the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service Wildlife Services National Wildlife Research Center (USDA/APHIS/WS/NWRC) evaluating animal disease prevalence in U.S. food animal populations and unregulated wildlife populations.  Tyler received his Ph.D. in agricultural economics from Colorado State University where his research focused on the economics of animal health.

Bernt Nelson

Bernt Nelson is an Economist in the Government Affairs Dept. at American Farm Bureau Federation in Washington D.C. Bernt originally comes from a family farm in rural Fullerton ND where he grew up with his two younger brothers. The farm is still active today growing corn, wheat, soybeans, with a cow-calf and feedlot operation. Bernt got both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Agricultural Economics from North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND. Bernt spent five years with Clemson University Cooperative Extension in South Carolina before joining AFBF in Washington in April 2022 with his wife and 1 year old daughter.
